QUEENSLAND STAMPS USED IN BRITISH NEW GUINEA 1885-1901

From the time of establishment of a government administration in British New Guinea during 1885 until the issue of the first 'Lakatoi' stamps on 1st July 1901, the stamps of Queensland were used on British New Guinea mail.

As an indication of origin of use, bar cancellers were issued to the post offices in the Territory inscribed at first N.G. (for Port Moresby) and later B.N.G. for all offices. The post offices at Port Moresby, Samarai, Daru, Tamata, Nivani, Sudest and Kulumadau ("Woodlarks") were opened during the "Queensland" period.

I do not cover Queensland used in British New Guinea in this Blog. However, it is covered by Roger Lee in his book The Postal History of New Guinea and Papua 1885-1942, and I have included his ratings below. Click on the images to enlarge them.
