The first railway in Queensland commenced operating in July 1865 and over time a network of railways, not always connected, developed. Travelling Post Offices (TPOs) were introduced into the system on 1 January 1877 and continued until 1936. The TPO numbers for each line refer to a specific TPO rail car / van used on that line
